The Forgotten Guide to Happiness

Lana Green has always been an introvert. As a writer, she prefers being alone with her books - that is, until she meets Jack Buchanan and his stepmother, the celebrated novelist Nancy Ellis Hall. Nancy lives alone in her North London house, but dementia is turning her eccentricities into a cause for concern. When Lana moves in and they become unconventional housemates,  she believes she is helping Jack and Nancy out. But as she begins to see the world through the prism of Nancy's unique views on love and happiness, Lana's well-planned future veers wildly off-course, taking her in a direction she never anticipated.

About The Forgotten Guide to Happiness

HarperCollins Senior Commissioning Editor Rachel Faulkner-Willcocks said: ‘I’m thrilled to be publishing this funny and moving story about a young woman learning the true meaning of friendship and love. Sophie Jenkins draws on her experiences supporting her mother, a long-time Alzheimer sufferer. She writes about this brutal disease with compassion and authenticity, but also a humour that is deeply touching
Sophie Jenkins says, 'This novel is about love and  the positive, life affirming power of happiness.'
"So I planned on writing an epilogue; I would say I met Mark on the top of Primrose Hill. As previously noted, in a novel, the setting is everything."
"I don't know if you remember me - I met you at the Edinboro Castle. You're a writer in need of a hero," Jack said.

My mother, the inspiration for Nancy. "It's not about overcoming, you know. No. It's about what you give up for love. It's the sacrifice, not the power. You're seeing it entirely the wrong way around."
